POSITION SUMMARY (Materials Science & Manufacturing Engineer)
The successful Materials Science & Manufacturing Engineer (MSME) will conduct analysis to identify and implement continual improvement activities and program development; assist in the design, installation, and evaluation of new programs, analyze production and service limitations and standards and recommend revision of specifications when required. The MSME is responsible for recommending, developing, implementing and maintaining optimal, cost effective manufacturing processes, methods and controls in accordance with product specifications and standards. This position will coordinate between research and development, management, productions, technical sales, suppliers and quality to meet with customer requirements.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o Conduct metallurgical investigations relating to process control and product development
o Provide material recommendations for research and new product development and to meet customer and/or industry standards
o Assist with selection of materials/ coatings
o Leads the manufacturing launch of new or revised products; Follow-up, lead, and delegate tasks/duties; Document project details and communicate to team and management
o Design, cost justify, develop, execute, and test capital and productivity projects within approved budgets, scopes and timelines
o Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency improvement
o Develop and maintain internal specifications for raw materials, heat treatment, surface treatments, and others to assure compliance with applicable industry standards and best practices
o Establish and approve specifications and techniques in the areas of materials, heat treating, processing, coating, and non-destructive testing
Required
Qualifications:
o BS Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science and/ or Metallurgical Engineering Field
o Minimum of 5 years of experience
o Strong analytical and problem solving skills
o Ability to communicate effectively in discussions of metallurgy and related support
o Must be open-minded, flexible, and able to adapt easily and accept new ideas quickly
o Demonstrated ability to work multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize and balance multiple tasks
o Ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team
o Excellent organizational, problem solving, and verbal/written communication skills
o Good interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with co-workers, customers and vendors at all levels in numerous functions
o Ability to troubleshoot complex processes
o Project management experience is preferred
o Experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred
o Working knowledge of SPC and Six Sigma including DOE is preferred
o ISO experience is preferred
o Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (earplugs, safety glasses, respirator)
o Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
